What is electronic waste? Wikipedia has the whole story. Get educated about electronic waste by visiting http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electronic_waste for detailed information about the definition of e-waste, global trade issues, management, processing techniques and a lot more. What happens to everything after we collect it? This is a great question and the most commonly asked by our customers. Our primary goal is to reuse as much of the electronics and computers we collect, as possible. We do this by placing some working equipment at schools and non-profits. Other items are sold at a fraction of the cost of retail price to individuals who can't afford to buy brand-new technology. Obsolete and broken equipment is broken down and sold to various local recycling companies. For example, our metal and wires are sold to SIMS Metals. Our PCBs or circuit boards are refined for precious metals at J&B Enterprises. The CRT materials such as monitors and televisions that we collect are transferred to State Certified Recyclers that disassemble and process the lead and mercury from the glass. Just about all the raw materials are sold to large manufacturers. How can we afford to provide our services for free? Our company is California State Approved to collect, transport and handle electronic waste. See our credentials by visiting CalRecycle.ca.gov. About 50% of our income comes for California State subsidization, throught the SB50 program for the collection of monitors and televisions. The rest of our income is received from the recycling of metals and other materials. |
